Changing Windows 11 toolbar settings

This method uses all the settings available in Windows 10 itself. It also works if you have Windows 8 or even Windows 8.1 installed on your system.

  1. The first thing you need to do is unlock the taskbar. It’s very simple. Right-click on the taskbar and uncheck the Lock taskbar box. If the taskbar is locked, you will see a check mark next to it.
  2. Right-click again on the taskbar and select Toolbars > Shortcuts. You will see this Links (||) toolbar on the right side of the taskbar.
  3. You will now see a series of parallel lines next to the newly created toolbar. Just click on it and drag it to the left side of the taskbar (drag it to the left side last).
  4. You will then see another set of parallel lines or a dividing line next to the icons pinned to the taskbar. Click and drag it to the center of the taskbar (aligned with the taskbar icons).
  5. Once you have set the location and locked it, lock the taskbar by right-clicking on it and selecting Lock Taskbar. When you see the link text, right-click on it and hide the text and title (you will need to unlock the taskbar to change this).

You can make the taskbar look more like the Windows 11 taskbar by right-clicking the taskbar and hiding the Search icon, Cortana button, Task View button, Windows Inkspace button, Touch keyboard button, and People icon. Also, drag the icons (WiFi, Battery, etc.) to the right to the hidden icons arrow.

  3. Now open the unzipped folder and run the Taskbar X configuration file.
  4. The application does not need to be installed, it just starts immediately.
  5. When the program opens, leave everything as it is and just click the Apply button. Your taskbar takes on the new Windows 11 style.
  6. You can change the size and colors, and opt for a transparent taskbar if you wish. There are many customization options to choose from.
  7. If for some reason you want to return to the default Windows 10 taskbar, simply open the X Taskbar Configurator and click the Remove button. After that, the program reverts to the old Windows 10 taskbar style.

There’s no difference though, you just don’t get the updates automatically, as opposed to downloading a new version from the GitHub site.
